Located in the historic Caffey's Inlet Life Saving Station No. 5, the renovated Lifesaving Station is Sanderling's casual, three-meals-a-day restaurant celebrating southern coastal cuisine and regional, organic products indoors and out. Known for the "best breakfast on the Outer Banks", the Lifesaving Station is a favorite Duck, N.C. restaurant.   The menu changes seasonally, while the wine and beer lists are always impressive.

LIFESAVING STATION

A Brief History

To assist wayward passengers and crew aboard shipwrecked vessels, lifesaving stations were constructed along the Atlantic shores. Caffey's Inlet was one of seven stations constructed in 1874. Decommissioned in the 1950s, it is on the National Register of Historic Places and was lovingly restored as Lifesaving Station Restaurant. Take a little time to study the historical memorabilia and nautical artifacts that decorate the restaurant's spaces.
